So, it's been nearly six months since we made a huge life change and moved to Deal.
We had no family or friends here, so it was a major decision to take. But, so far so good!
If you have heard of Deal before, chances are that it is because of a couple of key establishments locally that tend to take all of the attention. And yes, they are very nice and well worth a visit. But once you are local and living here, the smaller places and essential businesses take a greater importance.
For me, moving meant leaving all of my trusted professionals that I'd spent years building a relationship with - beauticians, hair dressers, nail techs (IYKYK!). So, before we moved, I did my research and joined local facebook sites to start some research (top tip for you there!).
I have a monthly facial with the amazing Kerry at Heavenly Holistic. Kerry is mobile, highly professional, uses top quality products and can also visit you at your airbnb if you are visiting, or can help with corporate contracts too if your employer is based locally.
There are of course lots of lovely eateries and the like here too. Our particular favourite is Hut55 - perfect for a post parkrun refuel. They also run beach yoga classes and rent bikes from here too - so that's the health and fitness box ticked! Another favourite food place is Soulchef Kitchen. Led by Dexter, this place serves the tastiest Jamaican food and is a big jewel in the town.
It is important to remember that pubs are not just for drinking alcohol in and in the current climate, they also rely on people to gather there for non-alcoholic refreshment too. In a town like Deal, they also serve a vital community focus too, somewhere for people to meet, gather and be together. With that in mind, particular favourites for us are The Berry, Smugglers Records and The Taphouse. The Taphouse also has a constantly changing array of artwork from the nearby Don't Walk Walk gallery
Running is also a key part of our lives. There are some great routes locally, and of course we have several parkruns very nearby, including the Walmer and Deal Seafront parkrun, that is an out and back along (you guessed it) the seafront.
So, if you are new to the town, or looking for recommendations locally, I hope this helps - more to come! Any thoughts or ideas to add, please send them through.
