I was super excited to have been included in the most recent issue of Deal Despatch. This is a fab local magazine that is published quarterly and is edited by locals, for locals and the visitors to our town. It looks at the local food scene, art and culture, shops and businesses, events and more. It means that I am mentioned alongside some really impressive local businesses!
I wanted to expand upon my article in this blog.
As a nutrition and mindset coach, I love living in Deal. What better way to lift the spirits than a walk or run along the seafront. The changing scenery means each experience is uniquely different.
If you are on a fat loss journey, then Summer is a great opportunity to really be able to focus on building those positive habits for success. And if you are, here are some thoughts for you.
The days are longer, so you need to ensure that you are adequately fuelling and nourishing your body. If you do not eat enough, then you will feel fatigued and lack energy. This in turn, may hamper your fat loss, as you will be less likely to be active. This is particularly pertinent if you are a petite individual, or perhaps very near your ‘goal’ weight.
We all know there are lots of lovely cafes and restaurants to choose from in Deal. If you are being careful with your calories, look for protein packed salads to keep you feeling satisfied and less likely to reach for calorie dense cakes.
However! One cake will not wreck everything, just as one hot day does not a summer make! You will eat at least 21 meals a week, so get back on track for the next meal and more importantly, enjoy life and making memories.
We have lots of outdoor exercise classes here in Deal, including beach side yoga. And if yoga is not for you, why not leave the car at home, take a wander to the beach and have a dip in the sea? “A swim is for the body, a dip is for the soul”
Or does the thought of swimming scare you? Does the sea intimidate you? Or is it the thought of wearing a swimsuit or shorts in public that fills you with dread?
If it is confidence in the water, try to remove some of the negative feelings that you may be telling yourself. Our brain does not process negatives, so if you tell yourself “I will not panic when I get in the sea” then what comes out is “I will panic when I get in the sea”. So instead, get to the sea, walk in and tell yourself “I am happy in the sea, I love being in the sea, I am calm, I am confident”. And breathe!
And remember, if you are scared by the water, don’t go alone - take a friend for safety and confidence, so you know you are not alone if you do need to get out.
If you feel insecure about what you are wearing and how you are looking at the beach, think a bit more about why you feel like that. Is it that you are comparing yourself to others, and assuming that maybe they are more confident, healthier or happier than you? Is it that you are feeling not good enough? Remember, we are all individuals, and you comparing yourself to a stranger or any other person means that you have no idea what is going on in their life. You do not know what they are doing to have the body you are comparing yours to. Try and get yourself to a position where you feel good and happy about yourself, no matter what you think your body looks like.
Easier said than done sometimes, I appreciate!
So, tell me. Where is your favourite place to go in the Summer? What activities do you enjoy doing? What does Summer mean to you?
